Update from The Happathon Project

Hope you’ve had a great few months since our last post.  Apologies for the lack of writing, but John (our Founder) has been focused on finishing up his new book, Heartificial Intelligence: Embracing Our Humanity to Maximize Machines.  The basic info about the book is now up on Amazon (click the link on the title), and the new site for the book should be up soon as well.

In the book, I (this is John writing this post) have an idea for a concept called, Values by Design.  It features the Values Survey we created for Happathon (which Dr. Margaret Kern and I put together) which about fifty volunteers were kind enough to take.  For three weeks, after completing a baseline survey, these people tracked their values every day to see which values they were really living to versus not.  The survey was a great success, in the sense that over 90% of people who took it felt their wellbeing improved because of tracking their values.  While this is subjective data and a small dataset, the point is that by tracking your values you’ll know how to live to them every day and gain insights that can help you improve your wellbeing/happiness.

While we’ve had a lot of interest in our Happathon Workshops, so far we’ve only done smaller versions of the half/full day events.  Hopefully we’ll be able to do the fuller versions soon.  Until those pick up, our focus is on trying to get the Values Survey into an app form.  We’re talking with a partner who assures us this may actually happen by the new year.  If that’s the case, we’ll let you know as quickly as possible.  So far, it’s been a challenge getting the funding and resources to make the app happen.  The good news, however, is that the Values Survey info will be available both at www.valuesbydesign.com, at johnchavens.com, and www.heartificialintelligence.com within a few months.  So even if you’re downloading a few pages to print up and track, you’ll be able to improve your wellbeing, for free, by tracking, codifying, and living to your values.

As always, we really appreciate your support and interest.  While we’re winding down a bit, we’re still here.  Just trying to keep the happy fires burning with the values survey until other work develops.

Hope you’re having a great summer and thanks,
John C. Havens
